Every year before the fall landslide of game releases start, I like to sit back for a minute and focus on what the best games of the year have been so far. Obviously in the next few months, this list will be very different with everything coming out. 2012 sure has been a wonderful year for gaming so far, and it looks like it can only get better from here. So here you have it, the top 10 games of 2012. Keep in mind that this is merely my thoughts and only reflects my personal experience for the year, it in no way reflects on the quality of other great releases from the year. Be warned that there could be minor spoilers in the videos.

10. Dragons Dogma

If there’s one thing that you can say for Dragons Dogma, it’s that the game is the gutsiest thing that Capcom has done in a long while. For a company that tends to rely on the tried and true, Dragons Dogma was a breath of fresh air. An expansive fantasy world; with a wonderful combat system, and some truly epic battles. While Dragons Dogma may certainly not be the best game, and has its fair share of bugs to go along, it was an interesting new IP.

The story and world of Dragons Dogma is nearly as rich or detailed as something like The Elder Scrolls, but where the game truly shines is in its combat system and enemy encounters. The fast and fluid combat, and interesting pawn companion system, is complemented by epic enemy encounters. In addition to fighting smaller enemies like goblins and bandits, larger enemies present a real challenge where your team has to effectively work together to bring down. Hitting weak spots and scaling enemies is key, and some of these encounters have ended being the most memorable fights I’ve ever had in my history with video games.
