Simon

I thought of my ultimate childhood game, and it was the game with the best ever opening credits (complete with catchy song) and the game was Cannon Fodder. I remember my friend and I sitting around my Amiga 500 with a glass of Coke, some biscuits and occasionally donuts…mmmm donuts………….sorry zoned out there!

the game was so simple and had a great sense of humour as you used the mouse to move your army men and shoot enemies dead. We always tried to get to and beat the last level but never quite managed it, mostly because you only had 500 lives and it was all too easy to have your men get killed by errant gunfire and there was no save feature. I remember seeing the hill where all my recruits were lining up getting more and more full with white crosses in memory of the fallen.

We spent many a weekend trying to beat the game and many what I considered then to be “all nighters” (although in truth it was probably only until 2 or 3 am but we were only 12 or 13 I think). But the absolute number 1 best thing about that game was the opening credits with the theme tune and people who are around my age (I’m 31) and have an interest in video games tend to remember the game and the tune and like me can’t help singing along to it.
