Square Enix released some new character progression screenshots for their upcoming 3DS title THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY. In them, you get a peek at the system in which players can level up characters and improve skills by fighting various monsters, exploring the surrounding world, and finishing events. Much like other Final Fantasy titles, your progression choices impact your playstyle, given that characters with high Strength or Magic have an easier time battling monsters, those with high Agility can travel greater distances with a better chance of finding treasures, and if they have high Luck, the odds of picking up rare items increases while having an easier time avoiding taking damage. The unique combination of Abilities that each character has aids in completing stages appropriately. While this isn’t a traditional Final Fantasy game, fans of the series should enjoy the elements this game brings to the handheld console, and if you haven’t picked one for yourself, there probably won’t be a better time with such a big lineup of games headed to the platform.

Watch for the release of THEATRHYTHM FINAL FANTASY on the Nintendo 3DS in North America on July 3rd, 2012.
