There are some movies that you just know are going to get a video game tie-in (mostly Marvel Comics, and animated kids movies), some are good, some are bad and some just plain surprise you. But among this plethora of good, bad and surprising movie tie-in games, there is some hope that one of these can be a truly game! And that hope lies with Spiderman. Yes Spiderman, the 2 legged, 2 armed erm arachnid? Superhero created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko way back in 1962 for Amazing Fantasy and later Marvel Comics. But is the new game going to be as good as previous spiderman games
Over the years there have been many Spiderman games, all of which have been very good and really made you feel like a superhero (in fact they even made me want to get bitten by a radioactive spider….and I’m terrified of spiders) by giving you the ability to swing through the air in an open world environment whilst having lots of fun, and really managing to capture the personality of Spiderman and Peter Parker.
The latest Spiderman video game is based on the Spiderman movie reboot – The Amazing Spiderman. But, this is no ordinary tie-in game, in fact it’s more of a continuation of the movie, as it takes place after the events of the film. So veteran game studio Beenox – who are responsible for the last few Spiderman games including the brilliant Shattered Dimensions – have been given carte blanche in terms of the story. In fact the story has been created and written by Hollywood writer Seamus Kevin Fahey (episodes of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica) and is one which takes place in many areas, all over (and under) the streets of Manhattan. Using the new “Web Rush” mechanic players will be able to pull off a vast array of moves never before possible, and experience the cinematic adrenaline rush of web-swinging through the city fighting crime using Spidermans spectacular acrobatic moves and attacks.
The Amazing Spiderman the Game, is looking like a must have game not just for fans of Spiderman but for fans of fun video games (which should be everyone!) and with the inclusion of one of Spiderman’s worst enemies Rhino – who looks amazing in this game – this could very well be one of the best Spiderman games ever!
The Amazing Spiderman The Game is due for release on June 29th in the UK.
