Peter Molyneux (of Fable fame) first started out with a company named Bullfrog Productions. There he worked on titles such as populous, and the heavy on story cult classic Syndicate. Syndicate was played in a strategic top-down isometric stlye, but since receiving a small add-on pack and sequel during the 1990s, the series has been quiet. However, EA has owned the rights to the cult classic series this whole time, and now we are finally getting something from this series again. In collaboration with Starbreeze Studios, best known for The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick, EA has announced a sort of reboot to the series.

The original focused on an alternate future where corporations held more power than the government, and every corporation had agents with special weapons, augmentations, and more. The new Syndicate seems to hold many of the themes and ideas from the original while taking the series in a whole new direction, that of a shooter. Because of the look and story of the game, many comparisons can be drawn between Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the new Syndicate, but we’ll have to wait and see if the new game can distinguish itself in a market heavily over-saturated with shooters.

What do you think? Are you excited to see this series make a comeback, or should it have been left alone how it was? The game will release in February of 2012 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. Check out the trailer below:
