Earlier this year, Dead Island made waves through the gaming industry with its admittedly impressive announcement trailer. Lionsgate has announced that they purchased the rights to make a movie on the brand new property based purely on the hype that the popular trailer generated.

Lionsgate didn’t have much to say on the actual content of the game, which has now sold over 2 million copies worldwide, but did talk about how many times the trailer was viewed online and how many publications mentioned it as being the best trailer of all time. Lionsgate’s co-COO and Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake stated, “This is exactly the type of property we’re looking to adapt at Lionsgate – it’s sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love.  It also has built-in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential.”

Here’s the trailer in case you happened to miss it so far. How do you feel about a Dead Island movie? Does it have the potential to be any good, or will it fall to the fate of most movies adapted from a video game?
