The creative director for the Halo series and Halo 4 has officially left the project and 343 industries as a whole, saying he’s “drained” and not “creatively excited” for the game.

Payton told Kotaku, “I had a great run at Microsoft, I don’t regret one day of it. But after a few years, there came a point where I wasn’t creatively excited about the project anymore.”

This doesn’t mean that he believes Halo 4 will be a bad game, it merely means it’s not going to be the Halo he wants. “The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different, and I don’t think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through.”

Could Payton’s leaving have a serious effect on the development of Halo 4?

Since leaving, Ryan Payton has already started his own development studio called, Camouflaj, and has two projects in the works.
