Online passes are becoming a staple in gaming these days. From sports games to shooters, they seem to try to get more money from the used consumers. Bethesda and id are doing the same thing with Rage. In an interview with Eurogamer, Tim Willits, Creative Director for id software, said that sewer hatches spread across the game would be free for people who buy the game new. If you buy the game used however, you may get enraged as that free sewer access will cost you extra. But Willits is saying that it is entirely optional and not integral to the game-playing experience. “Most people never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download that, and still never set foot in those things. They just won’t. I think that’s fair. It’s cool. It’s outside the main path. We’re not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can’t avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject.” Willits said. Do you think you’ll pick it up new just for the free access to hang with Ninja Turtles or will you wait and pay extra?
