If you love to race on your mobile, you’ve probably played one of Gameloft’s Asphalt games. The latest game in the series is a little different from the previous titles, and it goes by the name of Asphalt Overdrive. Ready for another endless racer?
Asphalt Overdrive looks like it came straight out of the 80s, and that would be awesome if it weren’t a lane-based racing game. You don’t get to zoom down any side streets or take in the scenery, you just get to run from the cops as you complete jobs to upgrade your car… rinse and repeat.
The controls in Asphalt Overdrive are simple as you just need to swipe to change lanes while staying ahead of the fuzz. You can hit ramps to pull off some tricks and even ram some folks off the road, but the “racing” is simplified. There are 7 different types of missions to take on and around 30 licensed cars that range
from Lamborghini’s to classic cars like the Mustang.
We didn’t spend much time with Asphalt Overdrive, but it appears to be a solid “freemium” racer with all the usual bells & whistles. As long as you don’t expect a full-fledged racing game, you should have a good time with Asphalt Overdrive, and it’s free to download on Google Play.
