iOS 8 has just been released, and whilst the update has received a lot of praise, there are a few concerns that have been raised about the update. Perhaps the largest issue that a number of iPhone owners are currently experiencing is the amount of compatibility issues with some mobile apps and games.

One of the largest and most noted iPhone developers that has been reported to have problems with the new iOS 8 update is Square Enix – currently, nearly their entire lineup of games are failing to initialize on devices with iOS 8 installed. Whilst this is a little frustrating, I expect it’s something that will be fixed over time. Square Enix are yet to respond to the issue, but it’s likely many other developers are having iOS 8 compatibility issues too, and it is only a matter of time till the developers create patches to work around the current problems.

If you’re a serious gamer who relies on their iPhone for gaming, I would suggest not buying an iPhone 6/6S or upgrading to the latest update until you know for sure that the games you play do not have any iOS 8 compatibility issues.

It’s easy to do a Google search about the games you play, and if you can’t find anything, it’s likely that there aren’t any noted problems for iOS 8 users.

In a couple of months time, I expect most developers will have optimized their games for iOS 8, and once that has occurred there should no longer be any major iOS 8 compatibility issues with games and apps. It’s important to note that iOS 8 has to incorporate two new form factors, 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch, into the app development process, so it’s understandable if there are a few hiccups early on.

So far, I haven’t noticed many problems with games, besides from a collection of Square Enix titles such as games from the Final Fantasy and Chaos Rings franchises.
