Christopher Nolan has made some great films, it’s no big secret. His newest film, Interstellar, is slated to hit theaters in November, and today we got an official movie tie-in game simply called Interstellar. It wasn’t what we expected, but we don’t really know what to expect from the film so it’s actually a good fit.
Interstellar the game is an interesting space sim of sorts. Starting out you actually get to build your own mini galaxy which consists of choosing and altering planets before setting them in motion. There’s a lot more customization options than you’d expect, and we we’re surprised at the amount of options for each planet. From the colors and atmosphere to the rings, there are a lot of ways you can tweak your galaxy.
Once you’re done, you actually get to explore a bit. This basically consists of slinging yourself into orbit around planets or suns to collect energy and information before reporting back to your homeworld. You’ll control your craft with thrust, and it’s not quite as simple as it sounds at first. Once you get the hang of things, it’s quite a bit of fun seeing how far you can make it. There’s also a social element to the Interstellar game as you can visit other peoples universe and they can visit yours.
As for the extras, you can upgrade your ship in a couple of different ways including extra juice and durability. There are some achievements in the form of mission patches, and we assume the game follows the movie to an extent, but we can’t be sure as the premise behind Interstellar is still a bit vague in some areas.
It’s always a mixed bag with movie tie-in’s, but we’re pleased to say Interstellar isn’t half bad. It’s not going to win any awards, but the graphics are top-notch and there’s quite a bit of fun to be had between customizing your galaxy and zooming around exploring the universe. The Interstellar game is well worth a look, and it’s free to download on Google Play.
