Ever since LucasArts was purchased from Disney, we’ve been seeing a large amount of different types of Star Wars themed mobile games released to the app store, and whilst they may not be as fully featured as some of the previously released titles, they are often free and offer a great tried and trusted mobile experience.

Disney has just released a brand new Star Wars iOS title by the name of Star Wars: Commander, and it has a gameplay structure similarly to many other mobile sim games such as Clash of Clans or Boom Beach. Star Wars: Commander has been available in a couple of countries as part of a soft launch for a couple of months now, but this week marks the game’s introduction to the rest of the world, and from what we’ve seen so far the game has been appreciated by many.

Despite being similar in terms of gameplay content to other games, Star Wars: Commander offers a refreshing new take on the genre by allowing players to choose between two different factions; the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, and following stories within each faction as you play the game.

Star Wars: Commander also encourages team play and has a feature called “Sqauds” which gives players within the same faction the opportunity to come together to make use of a range of different benefits.

As you can expect, the longer you play Star Wars: Commander, the longer it takes units to upgrade, buildings to be built, and overall the game slows down drastically just like Clash of Clans or Boom Beach does, and this is where convenience and time booster IAPs come into play.
