In our first edition of Flashback Friday, we talked about an awesome simulation game called A Story of a Band. This time around, we’re switching gears to the Tower Defense genre, and our blast from the past comes in the form of Jelly Defense from Infinite Dreams.

If you think all Tower Defense games are created equally, you probably haven’t played Jelly Defense. As the name implies, the game takes place in a land full of gelatinous creatures and it’s your job to stop the red & blue blobs from taking over the planet. Luckily, you’ll get an arsenal full of jelly towers to help turn the tides and you’ll need them all to stop the monsters from getting your nest of gems.jelly.defense-1

The setting and towers of Jelly Defense definitely help to set the game apart from the pack, but the way the towers work is also a bit different from what we normally see. Blue towers will only fire on blue enemies while red fires on red – you can build hybrid towers that fire on both, but they won’t pack the same punch.

Managing your resources and upgrades requires a lot of thought and you’re probably going to bite the dust a lot more often than not starting out. Throw in split paths and mega-monsters and you’ve got yourself a tough ass game. Jelly Defense is also easy on the eyes and you’ll quickly come to appreciate the colorful jelly monsters and towers set against the grey backdrops.jelly.defense-2

Jelly Defense is an outstanding example of a Tower Defense game done right, and while it does have a few minor issues, it’s really about as good as it gets. It’s going to keep you busy for ages, and it plays just as well today as it did when it dropped back in 2012. If you want to take Infinite Dreams Jelly Defense for a spin, you can pick it up for only $1.99 on Google Play.
