Google’s Chromecast is a great little device if you’re looking for a cheap way to stream media to the TV on the cheap. It’s handy, but there are a lot of things it can’t do including gaming… or at least that was the case. Meet GamingCast, a new Android app that lets you do a little gaming via the Chromecast.
Before you get too excited at the prospect of playing Super Stickman Golf on the big screen, GamingCast doesn’t work that way. You won’t be able to play titles from the Play Store, but you will be able to play a handful of classic games using your smartphone as the controller.
At the moment, you’ll be able to play Snake, Pong, Xonix, and Tetrominoes (Tetris) via the GamingCast app and the developers say that more are on the way. Multiplayer is said to be in the works as well, and they are taking recommendations for new games if there’s a classic you’d like to see cast to the TV.
GamingCast is a sight for sore eyes for Chromecast owners who’ve been looking for something new to do with their HDMI stick. While we haven’t tried it out yet, lag is said to be low for the most part and we expect that to improve in time as the app has only been out for a week. If you’d like to give GamingCast a try, you can pick it up for $1.50 on Google Play.
