When a game bills itself as Contra meets Minecraft it’s going to get your attention, and Windforge from Snowed In Studios has certainly grabbed ours. It’s a Kickstarter project that’s nearing its end, and the developers need your help to bring this awesome concept to the masses.
windforge
Windforge is a mishmash of killer ideas taken from games like Contra, Minecraft, and RPG’s. The game offers up Contra style action with the building elements of Minecraft all set in a Steampunk themed world. If that isn’t enough to get you interested, there are airships and flying Sky Whales as well. Did we mention that you get to build your own airship? Well you do, and the environment around you can be destroyed and rebuilt on a whim.

The world of Windforge is a world of freedom as there are no ‘artificial barriers’ which means you can interact and destroy anything you see. Want to mine a sky whale? Go right ahead, he won’t mind too much. You can do damn near anything you please and the world around you will reflect your decisions and show the results of mining and combat. There are also over 500 craftable items in the game to go along with an interesting storyline about an ancient energy source and Sky Whales set in the world of Cordeus.

Windforge has raised $34,634 or their $50,000 goal with around 33 hours left on the clock. They are close, but still need some help to make the final push which is where you come into play. The minimum backing level to get Windforge is only $15 bucks, and if you want to pony up $25 you can get early access and play the game this month without having to wait until March of 2014. If you’re looking for swag they’ve got plenty of that as well with Windforge flasks, Steampunk ID Folio’s, and original autographed sketches from the team. There are some crazy cool stretch goals to shoot for as well, but we’ve got to help them get to $50k first.

If successful, the team plans on launching the game in March of 2014 on PC although other platforms (iOS, Steambox) are on the table if certain stretch goals are met. If you’d like to help the world of Cordeus come to life, head on over to Windforge’s Kickstarter page and show your support.
