Remember when Legos where just something you played with in your room? Those days may be gone for some of us, but you can still enjoy the blocks on the small screen thanks to Lego-based video games. If you’re a fan of Lego games hold on to your cloak as Lego: The Hobbit has just been officially announced.
Last week promotional material leaked online that pointed towards a Lego game based on The Hobbit, and today it became official. Lego: The Hobbit will cover the first two films in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug. This means you’ll get to play as Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves including Thorin, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Ori, and all the rest. Each character will have their own special abilities as well – Bombur was used as an example with his “belly bounce” technique that can launch this dwarf companions to safety.
As Lego: The Hobbit will span the first two films of the new trilogy you’re going to get to visit a lot of areas from the film. Hobbiton, The Misty Mountains, Mirkwood, and Rivendell are all included, and there will be plenty of puzzles to solve and Orcs to kill. They also mention building “immense new LEGO structures” so we may get to do a bit more building this time around.

Lego has teamed up with TT Games on Lego: The Hobbit, and while no firm release date was given, you can expect to see it sometime during the spring of next year. When it’s released you’ll be able to pick up Lego: The Hobbit across a wide variety of platforms including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Ps Vita, PC, Mac, Wii U, and 3DS.
