Have you ever really enjoyed Tic-Tac-Toe?  Be honest.  Sure, it’s a great time waster when you’re six but if you’re like the rest of us you quickly outgrew the little game of X’s and O’s and haven’t looked back since.  This is why it’s so surprising that someone out there not only managed to turn Tic-Tac-Toe into a real game, but turned it into a game that’s incredibly fun and as brilliant as it is simple.

The game is Tic Tactics by developers Hidden Variable.  It takes Tic-Tac-Toe and gives it a much more strategic twist; Every space in the grid has been turned into another grid, and in order to place your piece you have to win the sub game for that square.  It’s a simple concept, yes, but the strategic depth that comes from competing on multiple boards at once makes Tic Tactics a unique game.   Even better, you don’t have to play an entire game at once.  If you have a few minutes to kill you can hop into one of your ongoing games, place a piece, and wait until your opponent can do the same.

Unlike most things in life, Tic Tactics is free and you can get it from the App Store or Google Play.  You can even connect to Facebook to challenge your friends and climb the leaderboards.  It’s worth checking out – Tic Tactics is a game that doesn’t look like much of the surface, but once you dig down you’ll find a lot to love.
