It’s pretty safe to say most gamers consider Myst to be a classic. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the game, and its creators headed to Kickstarter last week to bring a new adventure called Obduction to the masses.
Obduction is a new first-person adventure game in the vein of Myst and Riven where you’ll have to explore the world around you while solving tricky puzzles. Cyan definitely found a winning formula with their previous games, and like they say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Obduction looks to follow that mantra, but freshens things up for a new generation while bringing a strange and beautiful world to life. As you can see from the screens, you’re going to get a stunning and mysterious environment to explore. Cyan’s Kickstarter campaign for Obduction started on October 27th and runs through November 16. It may have only been live for 5 days, but it’s already amassed a whopping $485,197. Their goal is $1.1 million dollars, and at this rate they should have no problem hitting their goal. The lowest backer tier that gets you the game is $25 while and the levels and rewards increase all the way up to $10,000.
At least once or twice a month Kickstarter gets a game that raises insane amount of money. Obduction’s Kickstarter is new, but you can bet the farm it will be successful and rake in a lot of dough. People love a little bit of nostalgia, and a whole lot of people loved Myst and Riven. Needless to say, we’re looking forward to seeing what Cyan does with the game.
