What is your favourite scary game ever and why?

My favourite scary game would have to be Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I’m a huge fan of F.E.A.R, Resident Evil, Dead Space and horror games in general, but no game has ever scared me like Amnesia did. Every second I spent in the game was tense, and often terrifying. Amnesia is a masterful example of a horror game. It has a downright creepy atmosphere, terrifying enemy designs, a good sanity system that affects how you see the game. Whether it’s an invisible monster whose footsteps you only see in the small amount of water on the ground, or just a noise that you hear, Amnesia scared the living crap out of me. I made a policy to only play it at night and with headphones on just to heighten the experience. One thing’s for sure, Amnesia is the only game that has literally made me have to put my mouse down and take a break and I’ll be truly happy when I get another horror game that good.

What is your favourite scary moment from a video game?

As much as I loved Amnesia I think that my favourite moment from a scary game would have to be from one of the first ones I ever played, the original F.E.A.R. I haven’t been playing horror games for as long as I’ve been playing other video games, but eventually I delved into them and found that I couldn’t get enough. This particular moment though, will always stand out in my mind. I’d been playing F.E.A.R for a while and it had gotten its fair share of scares in, so I was on edge as it is. But when I’m climbing up an innocent ladder the last thing I expect is to see Alma right at the very top of the ladder as I get up. It truly scared me, and if I remember correctly I think I may have literally fallen out of my chair at that moment. F.E.A.R was the first really scary game that I ever played and I sure remember it.

What’s your favourite scary movie?

My favorite scary movie is definitely Advent Horizon. This sci-fi horror movie is terrifying, brutal, and gruesome and scared the shit out of me. Which is saying something, since I’ve never really found any other horror movie scary. I really don’t have any taste for horror movies, even as much as I do enjoy horror games. Advent Horizon however, I love. Slight spoilers, it’s a pretty old movie but in case you haven’t seen it you’ll want to stop reading now. A reconnaissance ship with experimental warp travel ends up accidentally travelling to hell and ends up bringing some of hell back with it. The ship becomes alive, and as you can probably guess things don’t end well for the rescue team that gets sent in. I would totally recommend the movie if you haven’t seen it.

What are you scared of in real life?

Well there are only a couple things, deep water I do have a fear of. The other one is going to sound completely insane, but I do have an irrational fear/phobia of things with flapping wings. So birds and butterflies especially freak me out. I wouldn’t say I’m scared to death of them, but I certainly keep my distance. I know it’s weird.
